If you go on a “moderate” hike from the village of Monterosso to the village of Vernazza in the Cinque Terre region of Italy, then you should know that “moderate” means that you should be carrying a moderate-sized oxygen tank. You begin the hike by climbing 128 large, irregular stone steps. And then you keep going for another two hours. But along the way are never-ending views of the Mediterranean Sea and the constant fragrance of flowering vines tumbling down from the hills — and then you come to a very high spot where you see Vernazza below:
…and you think to yourself that it was all worth it and that this was just the reboot you needed in your life. And you’re so happy that you have daughters who wanted to come with you on this trip, and you’re so happy that your body is able to accomplish this, and you’re so happy to be in the land of the best pasta and gelato in the world. Life can be beautiful.
Arrivederci for now!
