Or shots, as the case may be. I didn't create the idea for these little cuties, but I think it's a brilliant way to serve produce. I bought cheap glass shot glasses on line (I also got plastic ones for outside) and then just played around. For the vegetable one, I put hummus on the bottom — but you can use any dip you like. Then, I put in sticks of carrots, jicama, string beans, and asparagus. I think bell peppers would look beautiful, too. For the dessert shot, I put cereal on the bottom (it should have been granola, but all I have on hand are Grape Nuts), and then a little honey-sweetened yogurt, and then blackberries and kiwi fruit. I'll admit that this dessert shot is a little messy and requires a spoon — apples might have been a better idea. Note to self.
Aside from how pretty these are, let me tell you why I think they're great:
- I'm not a total germaphobe, but as a physician, I've got to tell you that people who "double dip" make me crazy. Take your own damn shot!
- I think serving vegetables this way would be a very enticing way to get kids more enthusiatic about eating them. It's worth a shot, no?
